How to choose the best credit card in India

The best credit card for you depends on where you spend, not on which card has the flashiest ads. Start by checking your last three months of spends: how much goes on online shopping, food delivery and groceries, fuel, UPI payments and travel. Then pick the card that pays the most in your biggest category.

    1. Fees vs rewards

A card's annual fee should be clearly lower than the rewards you'll earn. If you don't spend much, a lifetime free credit card is the safest choice. Many paid cards also waive the fee once you cross an annual spend target.

    2. Cashback or reward points

Cashback credit cards credit money straight to your statement, which is simple and predictable. Reward-point cards like American Express can be worth more, but only if you redeem points smartly.

    3. UPI on credit

RuPay credit cards can be linked to UPI, so you can earn rewards on everyday QR payments at shops. If most of your payments are UPI, a RuPay card is the biggest upgrade you can make.

    4. Read the fine print

Monthly caps, excluded categories (fuel, rent, wallets, utilities) and minimum transaction sizes can cut a card's real value. We list these catches on every card page, so you know what you're getting before you apply.

Not sure where to start? Use the card finder. Enter your monthly spends and it calculates which card earns you the most each year, after fees.

    FAQ

    Common questions

Which is the best credit card in India?

There's no single best card, because it depends on your spending. For online shopping, Cashback SBI Card (5% online) is a top pick. Amazon Pay ICICI is the best lifetime-free card, Scapia is best for travel with zero forex, and super.money RuPay is best for UPI cashback.

Which credit card is best for UPI payments?

RuPay credit cards work on UPI. The super.money RuPay Credit Card (up to 3% on UPI), Tata Neu Infinity HDFC and Kiwi are among the best for UPI rewards.

Which is the best lifetime free credit card?

Amazon Pay ICICI, Scapia, super.money RuPay and Kiwi are lifetime free, with no joining or annual fee. Amazon Pay ICICI suits online shoppers best, and Scapia suits travellers.

Can I use a credit card for UPI payments?

Yes. RuPay credit cards can be linked to UPI apps like GPay, PhonePe and Paytm, so you can scan any merchant QR code and pay with your card. Look for cards tagged UPI ready.

What is a lifetime-free (LTF) card?

A card with no joining fee and no annual fee, ever. These are great as a first card or a backup card.

Will applying affect my credit score?

Each application triggers a hard enquiry, which can lower your score slightly for a short time. Apply only for cards you actually need.

Is it safe to apply through this website?

Yes. We never ask for your name, phone number or financial details. The Apply button takes you to the bank's or card issuer's official application page, where you complete the process directly. See our privacy policy for the basic visit data we log.

How does this site make money?

Some links are referral links. If you're approved through one, we may receive a referral reward from the issuer. It costs you nothing, and sometimes you get an extra joining bonus.

Who is eligible for a credit card?

Most banks require you to be 21 or older with a regular income. Salaried applicants typically need ₹15,000–₹25,000 or more a month depending on the card. A credit score of 750+ improves your chances.

How many credit cards should I have?

Many people use 2–3 cards: a lifetime-free card for UPI, a cashback card for online shopping, and a category card (fuel, food or travel) that matches their biggest spend.
